The Situation May Seem Hopeless but Things Can Always Get Better
Within the past week, the country was witness to a tragic loss of life. Stephen “tWitch” Boss apparently succumbed to past challenges; took his life; and left behind his wife of nine years and three children. Suicide is a painful reality that happens all too often in our society. It is heartbreaking for the family and friends left behind because even the darkest circumstances can get better.

I do not profess to know, or understand the challenges associated with trauma, depression, anxiety or other conditions that lead to suicide. I pray for Mr. Boss and all those who think that ending their life is the only viable option. My heart hurts for the people left behind as they attempt to make sense of the loss of their loved ones.
Here are some behaviors identified by the Suicide Prevention Resource Center that may indicate that a person is at immediate risk for suicide:
- Talking about wanting to die or to kill oneself
- Looking for a way to kill oneself, such as searching online or obtaining guns
- Talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live
Behaviors that may indicate serious risk-especially if the behavior is new; has increased; and/or seems related to a painful event, loss, or change:
- Talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain
- Talking about being a burden to others
- Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs
- Acting anxious or agitated, behaving recklessly
- Sleeping too little or too much
- Withdrawing or feeling isolated
- Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge
- Displaying extreme mood swings
